The widest muscle of the back; gives the 'V' taper and is the main muscle of all vertical and horizontal pulls.

Function
Shoulder extension, adduction and internal rotation.
Origin
T7–L5 spinous processes, the thoracolumbar fascia and the iliac crest.
Insertion
Floor of the intertubercular groove of the humerus.
