Musculus quadriceps femoris

The four-headed muscle group on the front of the thigh; straightens the knee.
- Function
- Knee extension; the rectus femoris also assists hip flexion.
- Origin
- Rectus femoris: anterior inferior iliac spine; the vastii: shaft of the femur.
- Insertion
- Tibial tuberosity via the patella (patellar ligament).
